in a field (for piano)

i was improvising at the piano on a rainy afternoon at my family home in the faroe islands when this music found me. i wrote it down in one sitting, almost entirely — only a few details remained unfinished. as i played through it for the first time, the rain struck the window with growing intensity, as if the piece had pulled the storm into the room with me.

whenever i return to this music, i see that rain against the glass, but i also see flowers blooming, leaves drifting to the ground, the sun breaking through heavy clouds, waves shattering against the shore. an ordinary evening. a day filled with purpose. a warm kiss. a cold goodbye.

playing it feels like standing in a field of experience.
